Rescate Malix (Rescue Malix) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to find humane solutions to stray cat and dog overpopulation in Mexico, while also raising the standard of treatment for these animals. Rescue Malix works toward this goal by involving other animal welfare organizations, government entities, and media outlets in spreading a message of cultural change and compassion. That message is reinforced at the Rescue Educational Center, where visitors learn about responsible animal care and the importance of education, and where they come to understand that every stray animal is a living, loving, potential companion for life. Rescate Malix is partnering with CANDi to change the cultural conditions that condemn so many stray animals to lives of suffering. See www.rescatemalix.org.
Isla Mujeres, Mexico
Alison Sawyer Current and her husband Jeff moved to Mexico in 2001. Saddened by the plight of the dogs in their area they took in strays and puppies, attended to their health problems and found then loving homes. Eventually this evolved into Isla Animals, now a lifelong mission. They have rehabilitated and re-homed thousands of animals as well as arranging and participating in spay and neuter clinics in different location around the Yucatan Penninsula. Alison is a devoted advocate for any dog in need. Alison was awarded The Doris Day Animal Kindred Spirit Award. See www.islaanimals.org.

Through special grants, Coco's is also able to provide spay/neuter and emergency care for dogs. Sanctuary Evolución exists to promote the health and well-being of our environment, animals and mankind; to protect against violence and to cultivate a respect and appreciation for all living things; and, to ultimately strengthen the relationships and bonds that exist between man, animal and our environment. Evolución means to evolve, to change. We are about change. We have an animal shelter and sanctuary just south of Mérida, Yucatan on the road to Uman. We are home to more than 100 dogs waiting to be adopted. Evolución is more than a shelter. It is also a sanctuary for dogs who have been abused or mistreated. It is a home for street dogs "malix pek", many of whom will never be adopted simply because they are street dogs and not breeded dogs. At Sanctuary Evolución, these dogs have a home. Thank you for your support.
