CANDi... saving the lives of stray cats and dogs through spay, neuter and adoption programs supported by the tourism industry, travelers and pet lovers.

Mexico and the Caribbean are key tourist destinations for travellers from around the world.  Many countries in these regions struggle economically and are challenged to find resources necessary to address local concerns.  Despite this lack of financial assistance, some great work is being done for stray cats and dogs by dedicated individuals and small, grass-roots organizations.  CANDi is working with many of these organizations to implement our programs and create the financial infrastructure support to ensure long-term success.

To be a humane partner with CANDi, the local animal group must have the following criteria:

  • Charitable status in their home country, Canada or U.S.
  • A focus on spay/neuter and other prevention work, such as education
  • The belief that humane euthanasia is preferable to extreme animal suffering
  • Accurate financial record keeping and due diligence in fund management
  • Accurate and up-to-date statistics on all activities, including surgeries, adoptions and rescues
  • The ability to provide regular reporting on both finances and animal activities
  • An excellent reputation within the community
  • A substantial and active volunteer base or plans for building one
